Nigeria’s screen diva Omotola Jalade Ekeinde and the
nation’s king of comedy, Ali Baba will be honoured at the Prestigious African
Achievers Awards, AAA, which is scheduled to hold in Johannesburg, South
Africa on July 25, 2015.
Confirming the decision to honour the two prominent
entertainers, the AAA through its Principal partner, Rex Idaminabo said the duo
of Omotala and Ali Baba was most qualified due to their outstanding
contribution to the transformation of the entertainment industry in Nigeria and
in Africa.
According to Rex, ‘’while Omotala’s zeal and consistency
created the needed breakthrough for Nollywood to thrive, Ali Baba took the
comedy business to a different level in the country. Both Omotola and Ali Baba
created a path for others to follow.
They showed other artists the desired paths, and today,
entertainment has become one of the main industries in Nigeria and in Africa
that pays more people than any other industry. ‘’
He said it was proper to select few achievers from the
entertainment industry as it has over time become a business and profit driven sector
that is responsible for the creation of job opportunity.
The organizer also stressed on the importance of tourism and
entertainment industries, saying it was because of the symbiotic
relationship between the two that it will be recognizing the renowned
tourism and traveling agencies in Nigeria, VIP Express, saying the company has
set precedence in Africa and the world at large.
Also speaking, the Director of Public Relations and
Government Communication, Amb. David James Egwu announced that the next edition
of the AAA awards would be outstanding compared to the past events, considering
that participation is now drawn from 36 countries in Africa. He advised
those who are yet to register to quickly do so as time was fast running out.
Egwu explained that ‘’the African Achievers Awards Ceremony
is geared at recognizing excellent individuals and institutions that have
distinguished themselves in their contributions to the growth and development
of Africa.
The focus is to motivate all African leaders including the
prospective leaders and the youths through recognizing persons and
organizations that have contributed remarkably to the development of Africa.
He further stated that the first African Achievers Awards
was presented to Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu in recognition of his fight for Human
Rights, Justice and Peace.
He said, ‘’ as you are well aware, entertainment is equally
our focus in this edition as we hope to recognize entertainers who have created
a niche for themselves and as well transform the entertainment industry. This
year’s AAA is a bumper edition that will ensure the participation of great
achievers of our time,’’ he affirmed.
