An old English proverb states that, ‘A cat has nine lives.’
Englishmen have it that for three lives, a cat plays, the other
three, he strays and for the last three, he simply stays. These are the
nine lives.

Whereas human beings have the gift to use scientific inventions to live longer, some people just survive.
Like the proverbial cat, there are people who are not so liked,
but in one way or the other, such personalities tend to weather the test
of time.
Kenyan football too has had its own share of leaders from various walks of life.
One such person is Football Kenya Federation’s president Sam
Nyamweya, who some like to call ‘Uncle Sam’. The man is loved and
equally hated by many.
During the Harambee Stars return leg match against Ethiopia in the
Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier match played on Sartuday,
July 4, 2015, a large section of fans were baying for Uncle Sam’s blood.
Chants of ‘Nyamweya Must Go!’ filled the air as Stars tried in vain to find the back of the net.
Unfortunately for Uncle Sam, the same crowd that wanted him out
were seen singing praises for his rival, Evans Gor Semelang’o (pictured
right).
Barely a week after anouncing his candidature, Gor seems to have won the hearts of football bigwigs and fans alike.
Speaking after the match, Gor lamented that it was a pity that
Kenya kept fumbling against their rivals, considering that the country
has a superior economic might and pool of sporting talent in comparison
to our regional rivals.
“I believe the national football team should be featuring at both CHAN and Africa Nations Cup tournaments,” said Gor.
“Sadly, it is now 10 years, since we graced any international
competition. This in my opinion is a disaster, for each and every missed
opportunity is a lost chance for our players to highlight their skills
at the continental level,” he added.
Gor further challenged the incumbent to show what he (Nyamweya) has done for the national team.
